SENIOR GROUP PROPOSES CONFERENCE
SOMERS — Adventures in Lifelong Learning, an organization comprised primarily of retirees ages 55 and older, is hosting a conference on the University of Wisconsin-Parkside athletic program at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, at The Rita, Room 131, in the UW-P. .
Linda K. Draft will discuss the genesis of intercollegiate athletics at the school, paying particular attention to the trajectory of women’s sports.
Draft has worked at the university for 35 years, serving as a coach, associate athletic director and athletic director, while also serving as compliance coordinator. She has also taught courses for sports management majors.
Conferences are free for members.

Get on the workshop — 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through October 30 at the Aurora Wellness Center, Classroom C, 300 McCanna Parkway, Burlington. This free workshop is aimed at people 60 and older who live independently and can help participants avoid dangerous and costly falls. Participants will learn to identify and eliminate or avoid fall hazards inside and outside their home; how vision, hearing, medications and footwear affect fall risk; strength and balance exercises that they can adapt to their individual level; and how to get back on your feet the right way if you fall. Exercise classes — 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on October 31; November 7, 14, 21, 28; December 5, 12, 19, 26. The Wisconsin Parkinson Association’s movement and music exercise classes are free and held in Classroom C at the Aurora Wellness Center, 300 McCanna Parkway, Burlington. Classes incorporate stretching, strength training, posture, balance and walking exercises, as well as vocal exercises. Bringing baby home – November 2 via Zoom. This course helps families prepare for their baby by covering the essentials of caring for baby in the first few months, including feeding, diaper changes, reassurance, sleep schedules, signs of illness and timing. to call the pediatrician. Breastfeeding Basics — 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on November 2 and 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on December 7 via Zoom. This course will help expectant mothers have a better breastfeeding experience by learning how to establish a healthy milk supply; how to help baby latch on; how to know if baby is drinking enough milk; different breastfeeding positions and who to call if help is needed. Preparing for labor and delivery — 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on November 8 and 15 and December 13 and 20 via Zoom. This two-session course will teach expectant parents what they need to prepare for the childbirth experience, including anatomy, the labor and delivery process, and medical and care options. non-medical. October’s theme is “What’s up with Skin?” » (Sarah Kaldem NP), November’s topic is foot health and longevity (Kevin Liberty DPM) and December’s topic is the connection between fitness and lower back pain (Dr. Mark Dull, chiropractor). Walking with a Doc is free and no registration is required. Participants should meet in the main entrance vestibule near the Burlington High School flag pole.
CPR and infant safety — 6 p.m.-7:15 p.m. on November 29 and December 27 via Zoom. This non-certification course is recommended for families with infants and young children to learn artificial respiration, CPR, safe sleep guidelines, SIDS reduction strategies, and infant and child safety.
