« Balancing the shelves: navigating Controversial in the Anderson County Library Collections” will be the topic of the November 13 PFLAG meeting.
Chase Lindsey, who has followed the debate on Anderson County boards and commissions since controversial books, will be the speaker. Many of the books in question contain LGBTQ information or themes, according to a press release from the local PFLAG.
The meeting will be held at the Oak Ridge Jewish Congregation, 101 W. Madison Lane.
Everyone is welcome. The group meets from 6:45 p.m. for a short social time followed by the presentation from 7 p.m. The group adjourns at 8 p.m.
Oak Ridge has an active PFLAG group that meets monthly, rotating location among faith communities including First Presbyterian, First United Methodist, and Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Churches, United Church Chapel on the Hill, and Congregation Jewish from Oak Ridge.
PFLAG (formerly Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) is the nation’s largest organization of families and allies of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) people. Its mission is to provide opportunities for dialogue on sexual orientation and gender identities and to create a healthy society respectful of human diversity.
