ONEIDA, NY — Dr. Liza Jones will speak on “Precision Medicine: Using Pharmacogenomics and Nutrigenomics to Guide Your Health” at the Oneida YMCA on Tuesday, November 21.
According to the National Institutes of Health, precision medicine is an innovative, individualized approach to medicine that takes into account a person’s genes, environment and lifestyle. This scientific approach includes pharmacogenomics and nutrigenomics.
Pharmacogenomics is a science that uses your DNA to determine how your body will respond to medications.
Nutrigenomics is the study of how genes affect the ability to process food, nutrients, and exercise.
Jones will introduce the public to these sciences and explain how they are used to guide individual health choices.
The program will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Oneida YMCA, 701 Seneca Street. Registration is not required for the seminar. Food and beverages will be provided.
The Wellness Speaker Series, presented by the YMCA of the Greater Tri-Valley, is free and
Open to the public.
“If you are taking medications and want to ensure your medications are safe and effective based on your unique DNA, pharmacogenomics gives you insights and answers,” Jones said in a press release. “Nutrigenomics is beneficial to anyone who wants to get the most out of their diet and exercise routine.”
Jones received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the Albany College of Pharmacy and his certification in pharmacogenomics from the University of Pittsburg School of Pharmacy. She is the founder of Trinity Health Solutions, a consulting company that uses your DNA to guide medication decisions.
“I love helping people make informed decisions about their health and being a patient advocate,” she said.
The final seminar in this series will take place on Tuesday, November 28 at 6:30 p.m. Dr. Sheridan Mish will guide you through the “Seven Principles of Success in Business, Sports and Life.”
