HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Massachusetts – Medical personnel mark National Public Health Week, April 3 to 9.
Recognized annually the first full week of April, NPHW celebrates the contributions of healthcare professionals around the world and encourages education on preventive care.
“Our only job is to make sure the information is available to our community and prevent anything from deterring the mission,” Tech said. Sgt. Anna John, 66 MDS non-commissioned officer in charge of the public health element.
Each weekday, leaders present themes and topics to help the community maintain a healthy lifestyle and overall well-being.
This year’s themes include:
Community (Monday)
Lyme disease and its prevention (Tuesday)
Reproductive and sexual health (Wednesday)
Deployment Health (Thursday)
Food and nutrition (Friday)
“These topics are chosen after years of data collection and their direct impact on our installation and the local community,” said 1st Lt. Summerpreet Bali, 66 MDS public health element chief.
As Hanscom’s public health team has led key community COVID care efforts over the past three years, John says they have returned to their broad-spectrum education routine.
“The last few years have been very focused on communicable diseases, but we are re-engaging our population base with a focus on overall wellness,” she said.
