The initiative received such a warm response that the week-long celebration lasted for a month in 1980. In India, the history of National Nutrition Week dates back to 1982, when the government launched a campaign to raise awareness among individuals to the importance of nutrition. and urged them to maintain a healthy and sustainable lifestyle.
The Government of India launched ‘POSHAN Abhiyan’ in 2018 to raise awareness about health and nutrition as they play an important role in overall human development and social infrastructure.
Theme for National Nutrition Week 2021:
The theme for National Nutrition Week 2021 is “eating smart from the start.” A program has been launched by the central government to provide accurate information and awareness through seminars and workshops.
Through various campaigns and initiatives, the government aims to spread awareness about how children and citizens can benefit from a good nutritional diet from birth. People from different walks of life will participate in various sub-programs such as Bharat Poshan Premier Quiz, Good Food Talk Show and Healthy Khayega India and the week-long campaign.
Bharat Nutrition Week to fight malnutrition:
Integrated Health, in collaboration with the Wellbeing Council, has decided to celebrate ‘Bharat Nutrition Week’. Bharat Nutrition Week is likely to be the largest celebration of good food and nutrition in the country and will provide a common platform for relevant ministries, government and private enterprises, policy makers and social organizations to share best practices for fight against malnutrition.
