Suicide occurs throughout life. It was the fourth leading cause of death among 15-29 year olds worldwide in 2019.
Suicide occurs in all parts of the world. In fact, 77% of suicides worldwide occur in low- and middle-income countries.
Although the link between suicide and mental disorders (particularly depression and alcohol use disorders) and a previous suicide attempt is well established, particularly in high-income countries, many suicides occur produce impulsively in times of crisis. Other risk factors include experiencing loss, loneliness, discrimination, relationship breakdown, financial problems, chronic pain and illness, violence, abuse, and conflict or other emergencies humanitarians.

Suicides are preventable. Much can be done to prevent suicide at the individual, community and national levels.
