Public Health England (PHE) has launched a series of new online learning tools to strengthen the knowledge and skills of health and care professionals to tackle some of the biggest public health challenges.
The new interactive e-learning tools, developed by PHE and Health Education England e-Learning for Healthcare, provide succinct information on key public health issues to help professionals prevent disease, protect health and promote wellbeing.
Online learning tools are now available for cardiovascular disease prevention, adult obesity, antimicrobial resistance, physical activity, social prescribing, giving children the best start in life and support those who are at risk of or are experiencing homelessness.
The tools explain why each topic is a public health priority, with practical advice on how different skills, techniques and approaches can help health and social care professionals solve problems in their practice.
For example, the Adult Obesity Tool offers guidance on how professionals can approach conversations about weight and how they can measure and evaluate the impact of their work.
Each tool offers additional information to help professionals integrate prevention into their daily practice, with short knowledge tests to help improve learning.
Professor Jamie Waterall, Deputy Chief Nursing Officer at Public Health England, said:
With prevention a major priority of the NHS Long Term Plan, it is essential that every health and care professional has rapid access to advice that will help them make the biggest difference to their daily practice.
These tools make it easier for all health and care professionals to access information that will help them have a greater impact in preventing disease, protecting health and promoting well-being.
We know that health and care professionals are often short of time. That’s why these tools are designed to be used flexibly, helping people improve their learning alongside their daily tasks.
Fifteen more e-learning tools will be released in the coming year on topics ranging from smoking cessation to workplace health.
Each tool is based on the latest evidence and was developed by subject matter experts. PHEdesigned to build on professionals’ existing knowledge.
This advice is relevant to people working in the health and social care sector, whatever their specialism, from frontline practitioners to managers and strategic leaders.
Neil Ralph, National Program Manager for Health Education England, said:
Sharing our expertise in developing and designing e-learning content on the theme of prevention, a major priority for the NHS, demonstrates the impact our programs can have on patient outcomes.
Each of the new tools was created from PHEIt is Our entire health frameworka collection of materials, tools and resources that support prevention priorities to help reduce health inequities and premature mortality.
