Mental health can be defined as an individual’s psychological, emotional and social well-being. Although there is no proper definition, mental health is generally defined as the healthy and healthy mental state of an individual. As human beings, we often neglect the state of our mental health. This happens more frequently because a person may not realize that their mental health is deteriorating. An individual’s mental health is associated with many factors that generate negative emotions in the mind. Stress, anxiety and depression are some of the most common mental health problems among human beings. These illnesses extend to serious mental health issues such as schizophrenia, personality disorders and many more. Doctors also believe that these mental health problems are the result of the fast-paced and chaotic life that human civilization leads to. Most mental health issues are also due to an extreme situation from the past that leaves an everlasting impact on the individual’s mind and body.
An individual’s mental well-being is as important as their physical well-being since your mental health is the driving force of your entire body. The human body is prone to various diseases when it is in poor mental health. It’s not just about your emotional or psychological well-being, it’s way beyond that. Acidity, headaches, body aches, etc. are among the most common diseases developed by stress in humans. The situation further extends to hindering an individual’s behavior. It makes a person aggressive, vulnerable, socially distant and much more. These are all visible symptoms of poor mental health.
According to science and medicine, various factors can deteriorate an individual’s mental health. These factors are classified into environmental factors, emotional factors, physical factors and of course mental factors. Nowadays, emotional factors are the main drivers of negative emotions in individuals. Unhappy relationships, peer pressure, job stress, childhood abuse or trauma, family problems, mishaps with a loved one, loneliness, isolation, social deprivation, lack of acceptance and various other factors give rise to pessimistic thoughts in human beings. So, it is said that your body and mind are influenced by anything and everything in you and around you.
An individual can work to improve their mental health by seeking outside help and leading a healthy, mindful life. People can start by eating healthily, reducing their screen time, engaging in activities that bring pleasure and peace, and sleeping peacefully. It is important for people to avoid places and people that cause chaos and negative emotions in their lives. Choose a company that brings you peace and calm, trusts you and assures you that your life is valuable. A psychologist/counsellor can help you understand the characteristics of your mental disorders and address them. I think it’s high time to start talking about mental health issues openly and help others overcome these difficult times. The celebration of World Mental Health Day is one such initiative that aims to encourage open conversations about mental health disorders and seeking external help.
