Mental health affects people of all ages. Research shows that one in five Canadians will experience a mental illness or problem in a given year. The City of Mississauga would like to remind residents that it is never too late to take care of their mental health.
Through ongoing discussions about mental health, the goal is to normalize conversations around this important topic. The more we talk about mental health, the easier it becomes for people to access the resources they need that can help them. We must end the stigma.
Mental health practices
Below are some positive mental health practices that everyone can incorporate into their day:
Stay active
Find a track Or park near you. Mississauga offers plenty of green spaces for everyone to enjoy. Getting fresh air daily improves mood and is a useful way to reduce stress and stay physically active.
Learn a new skill or try a new activity
The City offers a variety of creative activities virtual activities for all ages and abilities, from the comfort of your home, including arts and crafts, fitness, literacy and learning.
Stay connected
Set aside time during the day to do something you enjoy, like while reading, spending time outdoors or being with family and friends. Incorporating self-care into your routine can prevent burnout and improve alertness.
If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health issues, reach out. Help and resources are available. The City and its community partners such as the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) offer access to numerous resources to support mental health.
