The FAO Representation in Pakistan has developed its first self-paced e-learning course, available via email. The e-learning course on Pakistan Dietary Guidelines for Better Nutrition (PDGN) is based on the PDGN publication, jointly prepared by the Nutrition Section of the Planning Commission of the Government of Pakistan and the United Nations for food and agriculture of Pakistan.
The e-learning course was developed for university students and professors, formulators and professionals in multi-sectoral national nutrition policies, as well as the general public. The course provides comprehensive country-specific guidelines for adopting healthy dietary practices to prevent and reduce malnutrition, nutritional deficiencies and chronic diseases.
Dietary Guidelines introduces the basic concepts of daily nutrition in Pakistan. They provide age-, gender- and culturally-appropriate options for choosing nutritious foods that meet daily physical needs. The course is divided into four main topics and uses interactivity to keep the learner actively engaged:
• Theme 1: The importance of nutrition
• Theme 2: Dietary Guidelines for Healthy Eating
• Theme 3: Nutritional needs and diet
• Theme 4: Other factors that affect health
Launched in English, the Urdu version of the e-Learning course will be available in the first quarter of 2020.
FAO’s resource partners JICA and USAID, which support agriculture and food and nutrition security programs, were instrumental in the delivery of this course.
Registration is required to receive course files. Please go to Online learning and fill out the web form.
