ALDI EXPANDS ITS HEALTHY EATING PROGRAM TO REACH AN ADDITIONAL MILLION CHILDREN BY 2024
Aldi, in partnership with Team GB and ParalympicsGB, is scaling up its Get Set to Eat Fresh program with the aim of educating a million more children about healthy, affordable eating by the end of 2024.
Prepare to Eat Fresh is a national educational program designed to help youth ages 5 to 14 develop the skills needed to cook nutritious, inexpensive meals.
The new goal will significantly increase the reach of the program – which has so far involved more than two million children since its launch in 2015 – at a time when it is more important than ever to help young people and families make healthy and affordable choices. .
Over the next two years, Aldi will increase its number of school partners; As part of the program, Team GB and ParalympicsGB athletes will get involved in creating school resources and visit schools to share their tips for preparing quick, healthy meals on a budget. Diver Jack Laugher and Paralympic rower Lauren Rowles have recently helped create resources for the ongoing campaign.
The UK’s fifth largest supermarket will also expand its library of online resources for teachers and families, helping to develop children’s understanding and love of nutritious food.
Liz Fox, director of corporate responsibility at Aldi, said: “Making healthy, high-quality food accessible to all has always been at the heart of Aldi.
“With the help of our partners Team GB and ParalympicsGB, we want to help more children learn essential cooking skills and inspire them with nutritious meal ideas that don’t cost a fortune.”
Andy Anson, CEO of Team GB, said: “The Prepare to Eat Fresh program has been a great way to engage and inspire young people around the theme of preparing and eating fresh, healthy foods.
“Today’s cost of living puts enormous pressure on families, so it’s never been more important to help more children cook healthy food on a limited budget.”
Mike Sharrock, CEO of ParalympicsGB, said: “Our athletes are passionate about helping to inspire the next generation to get involved in sport, live healthier lives and achieve their ambitions.
“Through our network, we can ensure that the Get Set To Eat Fresh program is truly inclusive. »
The Get Set family of programs was originally created as the official London 2012 education programme, to use the Olympic and Paralympic Games to inspire a generation of young people. Get Set to Eat Fresh was launched as part of the partnership between Team GB and Aldi in 2015.
