Arnold Schwarzenegger I didn’t just have a good sense of humor Saturday Night LiveThe sketches of Hans and Franz. He enjoyed them, he said in a new interview.
Hans and Franz is a subject that comes up regularly. Schwarzenegger spoke about the sketches when he appeared on Conan O’Brien’s podcast, and so, of course, it had to be discussed when he appeared Dana Carvey And David SpadeIt is Fly on the wall podcast.
“For me it was heaven,” Schwarzenegger told the SNL alumni, “because you have to understand that when I wanted to get into acting, one of the first things they said to me was: ‘It’s not going to work.’ No one in America has ever made it with an accent. No one can be a leading man or anything like that. It’s really hard. People want to hear someone talk like John Wayne, like Clint Eastwood or Al Pacino, those were those guys.”.
The former California governor continued: “Then I realized I had to make the accent something, not to hide it, but to make something of it. But then, all of a sudden, without that I control it, (Hans and Franz) came in. “And they legitimized it, because now there was someone who took the subject of (an) accent and had fun with it. Not to make fun of it, but to entertain people with it. I always said from that point on, it became a lot more accepted, it all really became a lot easier for me.”
While Carvey spent the first part of the podcast doing his Hans voice and reciting lines from the sketch, he seemed to really enjoy the feeling, saying he didn’t know Schwarzenegger felt that way.
The trio also discussed the time Schwarzenegger invited Hans and Franz to join him at the White House for the Great American Workout. But that was before that, when Schwarzenegger appeared on SNLthat Carvey first discovered how the Terminator The star felt his sketch.
“We didn’t know how you were going to react,” Carvey said. “They said Arnold was waiting in the hallway… So, Kevin (Nealon) and I’m a little nervous. We walked in, and you’re in a chair and you lean back and you’re like, “How do I do the accent again, guys?” Then we knew you loved it.”
Almost everyone got a chance to love Hans and Franz a little more, because the fitness gurus almost starred in a movie. Earlier this year, Carvey and Nealon even read part of the script on O’Brien’s podcast. We can dream.
