TOM NOW. 535 ACCORDING TO THE CDC, MENTAL ILLNESSES ARE AMONG THE MOST COMMON HEALTH CONDITIONS IN THE UNITED STATES AND HERE IN CENTRAL ALABAMA WOMEN ARE COMING TOGETHER TO HELP OTHER WOMEN DEAL WITH IT. WVTM 13 PATSY DOUGLAS LIVE IN LOCAL PATSY. WHAT IS THIS GROUP CALL. Well, this group of women, it’s an organization called WOMEN IN ACTION, and you can already see they’re out this morning working out, of course their focus right now is mind, body , heart, fire, see a number of women. WHO HAVE MENTAL HEALTH PROBLEMS. THIS IS AN ISSUE THAT HAS BEEN A TOPIC OF DISCUSSION FOR A SOME TIME NOW. MANY OF THEM ARE MOTHERS, SISTERS, SINGLE WOMEN, AND ELDERLY PERSONS ALL FACING THE SAME BUT DIFFERENT OBSTACLES. Regional fire director Beth Phillips says there are many reasons they’re seeing women struggling with mental health issues more than ever. I think women struggle more just to be able to stay connected just because of what life is like. SOMETIMES, YOU KNOW, IF YOU HAVE KIDS, IF YOU HAVE THEIR ACTIVITIES, IF YOU HAVE A JOB, IF YOU’RE A STAY AT HOME MOM, LIFE LOOKS DIFFERENT EVERY DAY. NOW, Phillips says they want to be an outlet. RIGHT AWAY. THE ORGANIZATION OFFERS TRAINING ACTIVITIES EVERY WEEK. THEY ALSO MEET FOR FAMILY DISCUSSION GROUPS AND WORKSHOPS TO HELP FIGHT THIS PROBLEM. Women across central Alabama are coming together to fight mental health issues. Females In Action focuses on the body, mind and heart. The FIA sees a number of women facing mental health issues. This is an issue that has been discussed for a while now. Many of them are mothers, sisters, single women and elderly people who are all going through the same obstacles. FIA regional director Beth Phillips says there are many reasons why women are facing mental health issues more than ever.
