Added sugar and total sugar: what is the difference?
“Added sugar” is added to “total sugars” on the Nutrition Facts label. Added sugar has been added to a food during processing. Sugar naturally found in foods is not considered added sugar. This label change is intended to make it easier to track the amount of sugar in your daily diet. Research has shown that it’s difficult to meet your nutritional needs while staying below your calorie limit if more than 10% of your total daily calories come from added sugar.
