BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Eating healthy is one of those necessary topics to talk about, but it’s really hard. Especially if you have fitness or health goals.
Consume a certain amount of calories per day, whether that means reducing the amount you eat or adding more. It’s hard, especially when we’re all so used to our routines of what we like to eat.
March is National Nutrition Month. Although this may seem a bit trite, given that it is still a topic that is talked about a lot, it is important to have this dialogue.
“We should all enjoy the food we eat. Just because you change something doesn’t mean the food will taste bad. We should really try to make sure the food is nutritious, but also really tasty and enjoyable,” Manis said.
Katie Manis is the director of nutrition and dietetics at Buffalo State University. She works with her students who are aspiring dietitians, taking them to hospitals and other parts of the Buffalo community to help everyone make changes to their diets.
These changes, even the smallest ones, could radically affect the way people live their lives.
“We tend to eat the foods we like, and sometimes making drastic changes doesn’t always fit into everyone’s world,” Manis said.
Manis and I discussed many topics about healthy living and alternative food choices:
- Avocado/black bean brownies
- Little nutritional difference between brown rice and white rice
- Fry less food with cooking oils
- Shop at cheaper stores to find healthier items
- Buy frozen fruits/vegetables for a cheaper, longer-lasting option
