The MISS America 2024 pageant was called low-budget by some fans while others questioned whether the topics given to the contestants were random as claimed.
This year’s competition got off to a great start at the Walt Disney Theater in Florida with hosts Terrence J and Nikki Novak quickly helping to narrow the field down to 11 semi-finalists.
Still, some fans were initially confused about how to watch the show which was not broadcast on any network but streamed through the competition’s website.
The streaming situation also meant that the hosts filled what would have been commercial breaks with segments with the crowd.
While Terrence J received some applause from some fans for his “crowd control” skills, others weren’t exactly thrilled with the hosts.
“Wtf happened to Miss America, why is the budget so small, what is this question panel who are these annoying hosts??” commented one user out of X.

“These hosts are painful to watch #theresheis #missamerica,” another added.
“I like the fact that there is no advertising since it’s not broadcast on television,” retorted a viewer.
“We witness all the crowd shenanigans, and Terrance J is really good at crowd control.”
Some fans were also perplexed by a relatively new segment of the show where the semi-finalists were given a broad, seemingly random topic that they had to speak on for a minute.
Topics included family and education.
However, some viewers were skeptical that the finalists would be able to answer the questions if they had not been chosen beforehand.
“Definitely giving these ‘random’ topics a STRONG side eye,” one user said.
“I have the feeling that they were at least warned, it’s too risky for a live broadcast of a competition like this to throw them into it completely blind,” reads another post by X.
“Remember the whole ‘support the candidate you want to advance’ debacle?!
“Oh my god, this hot new phase of competition… I think I love it,” wrote a third.
“No more long-winded, awkward questions that take 20 seconds just to ask?? Yes, please!” » rang out a third.
Once the semi-finalists had gone through the fitness and topics section, they were then asked to showcase their talent.
However, a technical malfunction appeared, the hosts’ microphone remaining on while a competitor sang.
“Um. Turn off the host mic,” one user said.
“Oh my god, whose mic isn’t off? Be serious,” said another.
“These contestants deserve a much better production than what they got… Someone please turn off the host’s mic while she sings!!” » expressed another.
THE Miss America The competition began on Sunday at 7 p.m. with one contestant from each state.
After interviews Earlier in the week, the semi-finalists were announced at the start of the show.
