Practitioners from a wide variety of fields related to healthcare, sports and fitness, as well as food, cooking and school nutrition can now join the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics as as an associate of the Academy. Associates have access to many benefits, including the Academy’s Evidence Analysis Library, professional publications, networking opportunities, and preferred pricing on resources and conferences.
Accessible to anyone meeting one or more of the following qualifications:
- Has a valid U.S. license or certification such as:
- Certified Culinary Professional*
- Certified Dietetic Manager, Certified Food Protection Professional (CDM, CFPP)*
- Certified in global food safety (CCFS)*
- Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES)*
- Certified midwife (CM or CMN)
- Certified Professional – Food Safety (CP-FS)*
- Certified Sports Medicine Practitioner*
- Clinical psychologist (LCP or CP)
- Clinical Social Worker (CSW, LSW or LCSW)
- Dental hygienist (BS-DH, RDH or LDH)*
- Dentist (DDS or DMD)
- Nurse Practitioner (NP)
- Occupational therapist (occupational therapy)
- Pharmacist (RPh or PharmD)
- Physiotherapist (PT)
- Physician (MD or DO)
- Physician Assistant (PA)
- Registered Registered Environmental Health/Registered Health Specialist (REHS or RS)
- Registered Nurse (RN)*
- School Nutrition Specialist (SNS)*
- Speech therapist (CCC-SLP)
* Indicates proof of related degree required in addition to proof of licensure or certification in the specified occupation. Other professional titles only require proof of licensure, training or certification.

Has a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree from a U.S. college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE) in the fields of agriculture, biochemistry, computer science, family and consumer sciences, domestic economics, hotels and tourism, hotels and restaurants and institutions. management, microbiology, public health or public policy. Requires submission of original transcripts or registrar confirmation statements for qualifying degree.
Privileges of associate members: Associate Members whose dues are not delinquent will have access to applicable Academy benefits, products and services and will be eligible to hold appointed positions at the national, affiliate (state), dietetic practice and group levels. interest of members (DPG and MIG), with the exception of those listed below.
Associate members will NOT have the right to:
- Hold elected positions at the national, affiliate (state) and Dietetic Practice Group and Member Interest Group (DPG and MIG) levels
- Vote in National, Affiliated (State) and DPG/MIG Elections

Special note: The Academy is unable to process membership applications without the required documents. The documentation must be provided within 30 days of the request (or notification must be received from the requester within 30 days indicating the date it will be received). If documentation is not provided or you are not eligible for Academy membership, the Academy will cancel the application and refund payment.
