May marks Mental Health Awareness Month, and this year’s theme is “More Than Enough.” Mental Health Awareness Month raises awareness about behavioral health, supports those struggling with mental illness, and breaks the stigma of talking about its prevalence in our country.
Unfortunately, mental illness continues to impact many Americans, especially during these uncertain times. THE National Alliance on Mental Illness reports that:
- 1 in 5 adults in the United States suffer from mental illness each year
- Each year, one in six young Americans aged 6 to 17 suffers from a mental health disorder.
- 50% of all lifetime mental illnesses begin by age 14 and 75% by age 24
- Suicide is the 2nd cause of death among 10-14 year olds
These sobering statistics highlight the need for continued emphasis on mental health education. Hershey Entertainment & Resorts encourages open and honest conversations among your teams, families, and friends, which can help clear up misunderstandings around this topic.
