With May being Mental Wellness Awareness Month, ABC11 will feature a mental health topic every Wednesday as well as UnitedHealthcare experts. Dr. Lisa Shock, population health manager at UnitedHealthcare, explains what anxiety disorders in children can look like and which children are most at risk.

Lisa is an innovative population health leader with national expertise in Medicare, Medicaid and value-based care. With over 15 years of experience managing clinical services in healthcare environments, she has expertise in all areas of clinical operations, value-based care, technology and telehealth, sales, strategy development and communications. Lisa joined United Healthcare in November 2021 and enjoys developing, designing and leading all things population health for their NC Managed Medicaid plan.
Lisa is currently one of the only physician associates (PAs) nationwide with an active, continuing clinical practice in ambulatory medicine and with experience in hospital medicine, long-term care, health administration the population, in counseling and in academia. She received her PA training at Duke University and her PhD in global public health at UNC Chapel Hill. Lisa’s experience includes expertise in community and family health, geriatrics and rural health. Lisa served two terms on the Board of Directors of the North Carolina Institute of Medicine and currently serves on the North Carolina Public Health Commission.
Lisa is married to a government chemist and has two daughters. Her oldest daughter is a pre-professional dancer pursuing her BFA in modern dance at Point Park University and hopes to one day be on Broadway. Her youngest daughter is in high school and loves rock climbing and volleyball. Their family enjoys Disney trips as often as possible to spend quality time as a family.
