A woman in Alaska posted a photo of a trans woman in the Fairbank women’s locker room. She accused the company of allowing “men” into a space that seems reserved for cisgender women.
The original image appeared to show a transgender woman as she shaves over a sink in a locker room. The woman who took the photo later ranted and raved in a video about how upset she was. THE video ended up going viral and sparking a massive debate.
As a result, the local Planet Fitness revoked her membership, while the transgender person she had photographed was left alone. Planet Fitness also doubled down, saying its policy allows people with certain gender identities to use whichever locked room they deem appropriate.
That being said, they stated that people cannot act in bad faith or their membership could be canceled.
However, it now appears there are more photos of the trans woman who was initially photographed walking around while using the gym locker rooms. People on the more conservative side of politics have called on others to cancel their Planet Fitness memberships across the country.
It appears this has had a big effect, as Planet Fitness’s stock price has been hit hard. THE market value also fellwith shares dropping from $66 to around $56 in just 12 days.
The company’s market capitalization also fell by about $400 million. The group went from $5.3 billion to around $4.9 billion in just five days!
