On December 12, 2023, the Brazilian Federal Police launched “Operation Hinsberg”, which is investigating the diversion of chemicals intended for drug production. The main target would be the company Anidrol, of which fitness influencer Renato Cariani is one of the partners. The same day, Brazilian news channel SBT News uploaded a video (shown below) about the controversy, which garnered over 377,000 views and 10,000 likes in one day.
The video above details that in total, 12 tons of chemicals were diverted, worth approximately BRL 6 million (approximately $1.3 million). Phenacetin, acetone, ethyl ether, hydrochloric acid, mannitol and ethyl acetate are on the list of components whose use would correspond to the refining and adulteration of 19 tonnes of crack and cocaine.

After Cariani’s home was searched and seized, the bodybuilder influencer released a statement on his Instagram page, speaking about his company, which is among those under investigation for misuse of chemicals to produce drugs. The post garnered 1.3 million likes in one day.
