If you’re not exercising nine hours a day and following your 22-step skin care routine, you’re doing it wrong.
A Sunday to take care of yourself? Instead, take care of yourself every day.
If you’re not up before the sun and in bed by the time all your friends are going out, then you’re doing it wrong. When your roommate comes home at 5 a.m. from a night out, you should have already been awake for two hours getting ready to start your 7-hour day.
TikTok trends have shown us “that person’s” routine: someone who wakes up early, exercises for hours a day, has a ton of friends, and runs their life together.
The beauty of social media is that people can project the image they want others to see, including “that person.” So why not become one?
Here are some self-care tips and tricks that will force you to become “that person.”
Exercise
Since it has been decided that waking up before the sun is the first step to becoming “that person”, taking the next step is even more essential. Of course, we all climb ridiculously steep hills to get to class, so to become the best version of yourself, trade that walk for a run.
Trust me; it won’t look ridiculous at all if you’re wearing a winter coat and sprinting down Stadium Way to your next class. Everyone will envy you because your strides will make fun of their laziness.
Daily extreme exercise is a very important part of self-care. Even though you’ll have to have surgery for a new heart before your 40th birthday, it at least looks good on Instagram that you’re at the gym for a significant portion of your day.
Skin care
If there aren’t at least twelve steps in your morning skincare routine, your skin is probably terrible. Cleanser, toner, vitamin C serum, eye cream, moisturizer and sunscreen in the morning are the bare minimum to achieve the skin of your dreams.
In the evening, at least 11 steps are necessary. Facial masks at least eight times a week are essential to achieving the best skin of your life.
First thing in the morning, after drinking two gallons of water consecutively, you should perform each skin care step. Drugstore skincare is never a good option, even though many brands come highly recommended by dermatologists.
“If you don’t spend at least two hours a day on your skin, with the most expensive products, it will never look the way you want,” said dermatologist Dr. Vera Rong.
Even though it can her extreme, you cannot achieve your goals without a certain level of extremity. Taking these 11 extra steps is essential and absolutely not an unrealistic goal to achieve.
Imagine how aesthetic your TikTok will look if you share your super short skincare routine with your massive audience of… 12 followers!
alone time
Alone time is so overrated. Winding down after a long day of working on yourself is so ridiculous and useless for your mental health.
Once you are done with your daily routine, it is important to spend all your free time with a large group of friends.
Also don’t forget to post photos of you and your friends, especially during a pandemic. This lets everyone know how social you are and that you have a ton of friends.
Some say it’s selfish, we call it self-care.
If you spend time alone, you have way too much room to think about the important things. Now is not the time to think! It’s time to have fun and be “that person.”
“I used to spend a lot of time alone, but now the only time I’m alone is when I’m showering or sleeping,” said Sarah Tonan, a freshman human development major.
A key part of Tonan’s specialty is the individual development of the human race. Her specialization motivated her decision to never spend time alone. Spending time alone forces you to grow, which is not at all important for people’s development.
Ghost your therapist
Obviously, the transformation into “that person” must happen in a single day. Otherwise, it is not effective.
Talking to your therapist about such a life-changing decision is completely unnecessary. Opening up about your decisions will waste the time you need to devote to your skin and the gym.
Just make the change.
If you invest all of your time in self-care, you really don’t have any issues to address.
Embedding your feelings is totally cute and trendy, especially if you want to work on the health of your relationships.
Reality
In all seriousness, if you’re creating unrealistic expectations for yourself in terms of relationships, exercise, or even skin care, take some time to think. Your well-being is much more important than how people perceive you.
Getting out of your comfort zone is important, but not if it harms your mental health. Take care of yourself and pay attention to what makes you happy.
(And please don’t ghost your therapist).
