Tamzid Rahman, a 15-year-old social entrepreneur from Dhaka, was awarded the title of Glocal Teen Hero Bangladesh 2023 at an awards ceremony at the premises of Daffodil Education Network, Dhaka, Bangladesh, organized by Glocal Pvt. Ltd today (October 16).
This is the second edition of Glocal Teen Hero Bangladesh, a platform to identify and honor exceptional teenagers whose creativity, commitment, experience and strong leadership have helped them achieve success in life , indicates a press release.
This award recognizes and honors the exceptional adolescent whose work is enduring and who can think outside the box to solve problems and create impact in society.
Fostering a collaborative community among recipients and building national recognition of today’s young leaders is one of the primary goals of the Glocal Teen Hero Award, a press release states.
With an aim to initiate Glocal Teen Hero across South Asia, Glocal has brought this opportunity to South Asian teenagers for their encouragement and development.
According to a press release, Tamzid was selected among the top six finalists of the competition, namely MA Mahamud Yeamin (19, environmental activist, Barishal); Maynul Islam (17, activist, Lakshmipur); Mehejabin Helen Mitu (19, environmental activist, Narail); Mohtashim Monowar (16, mental health activist, Cumilla); Tarannum Ahmed Chowdhury (19, environmental activist, Dhaka).
Tazmid is the founder of BloodLink/The Plenty Project, an action developer at KidsRights Netherlands and a global change maker, social activist/entrepreneur, reads a press release.
Currently he works with BloodLink. It builds a community of blood donors and recipients, to provide 24/7 support in the event of a medical emergency. It has Bangladesh’s first peer-to-peer online blood portal (bloodlink.xyz).
It not only launched the mobile app but also made blood request interactions smoother with the end-to-end encryption chatbot (hyp.link/apply).
He is working on setting up a toll-free helpline to connect donors in no time.
He is also connected to the Plenty Project, where he launched 2 awareness e-books last month; The menstrual hygiene e-books have so far been downloaded more than 100 times. He then wants to work on climate innovation with this company.
According to a press release, with BloodLink, it has handled over 54 blood requests, matched over 14 donors, and expanded to over 1,000 users. The team has created a helpful community of donors and blood donors, beyond expectations in a very short time. Additionally, the social pages reached over 1.1k interactions. Plenty Project organized a mental health workshop at St. Joseph Higher Secondary School, Dhaka last year with the participation of over 150 students, over 5 counselors and guest speakers. It also launched the e-book on cyberbullying and menstrual hygiene last month. He wants to grow this business to advocate for social change, reaching more than 2,000 people by the end of the year.
These teenagers were selected from a pool of 362 applications from across the country, by a respected jury following an intense selection cycle for the impact they have created in society.
Candidates have demonstrated their skills and expertise and made an impact on their society, in areas such as education, social activism, entrepreneurship, technology, research and innovation. This award recognizes the outstanding adolescent who has made a lasting contribution to society through innovative solutions to problems.
The six finalists were shortlisted for the final round of Glocal Teen Hero Bangladesh based on their resumes, evidence and an essay on their achievement. These teenagers underwent an interview after which the winner was selected. They were also evaluated on their sustainability, innovation and contributions in their respective areas of work.
The finalists were interviewed individually by the jury comprising Ashiq Imran, CEO and Principal Architect at Fialka; Mahjabin Khaled, chairman of the Khaled Musharraf Trust and former MP; Osama Bin Noor, co-founder and COO of Youth Opportunities; Rob Stoelman, project manager at UNDP; ShahrimaTanjin Arni, a lecturer at the Department of Law and Tamzid, was officially declared and awarded as Glocal Teen Hero Bangladesh 2023 during the award ceremony at Daffodil Education Network, Dhaka, Bangladesh.
