We’ve been through a lot over the past two years of the global COVID-19 pandemic, including lockdowns, constant mask-wearing, and social distancing. And while many of the steps we took were in the name of health, other aspects of our health may have suffered.
For example, preventive cancer screenings, such as mammograms, saw a decline during the height of the pandemic, and dental visits were on average lower than in previous years. We also moved our bodies less: an observational study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine noted that overall step counts have declined significantly around the world.
Because the pandemic has had a profound impact on our health and increased the need for health information, we decided to dedicate our first digital issue to getting our health prevention back on track. Our first issue examines preventative cancer screenings, dental visits, routine immunizations, alcohol consumption, exercise and much more. In addition to in-depth coverage and first-hand stories, we also highlight the experiences of our frontline healthcare workers.
To bring the theme of this fantastic issue to life, we’re thrilled to hear TV personality, comedian and author Jonathan Van Ness share his experience of the pandemic as well as his preventive health journey, which can be a source of inspiration. inspiration for us all. Their message, along with all the articles in this digital issue, highlights the heart of Verywell’s mission: empowering you to take a proactive role in your health. Now is the right time to take that control and we are here to guide and support you towards health and happiness.
