The Center for Healthy Living (CHL) offers “HealthKick,” a six-week virtual education program that addresses physical activity, nutrition education, how to create healthy habits and reduce stress.
By increasing education on these topics, the program’s goals are to create long-term behaviors and establish ongoing relationships with CHL’s health coaches and dietitian to improve overall well-being.
The next session begins May 2 and is available to all benefit-eligible employees on the West Lafayette, Fort Wayne and Northwest campuses as well as dependents covered by a Purdue health plan.
The program is based on daily videos, approximately five minutes long, delivered via text message or email (depending on preference), Monday through Friday during the six-week program period. Additionally, the program includes three integrated individual sessions with a CHL health coach or dietitian, which are established at the start of the program.
Participants are required to complete a survey at the end of each week that will help provide insight into each individual’s health journey. Health coaches receive weekly surveys and reach out personally each week to offer support and encouragement; Health coaches will also be available for health coaching appointments in person or over the phone, as needed.
“The HealthKick program helps us meet requests for more virtual and telephone program options,” says Candace Shaffer, senior director of benefits in human resources. “The program supports our Healthy boiler program and his physical health pillar, which champions health education and much more to help individuals achieve lasting physical health and well-being. We hope the program continues to be well received by the Purdue community.
The six-week program runs from May 2 to June 10 and follows the outline below:
- Before the program begins, participants will meet one-on-one with a health coach, in person or over the phone. Those who meet in person have the opportunity to set up their initial labs and InBody assessment at CHL.
