WESTLAKE, Ohio — The Westlake Porter Public Library hosted a health fair Saturday, Nov. 4, and the range of health exams and large number of topics attracted a large number of people.
As usual, the library used its capacity to handle large events, freeing up space for all visitors.
In the Porter Room alone, 13 health organizations were on hand so visitors could meet people who could provide a wealth of information on health-related topics.
The organizations included:
– Cleveland Hearing and Speech Center
— Cleveland Rape Crisis Center (which offers brochures to help children stay safe online, a hot topic today)
— Cuyahoga County Board of Health
— Farrell Foundation
– Westlake Physical Therapy and Balance Centers (Balance Screenings)
— Joel’s place for children
— Ombudsman for Long-Term Care
— My new villa
– National Alliance on Mental Illness
— Ohio Library for the Blind and Print Disabled
– Ohio Seniors’ Health Insurance Program, Medicare Questions and Answers
— CQ Kinetix
– West and South Life Insurance
Other meeting rooms were used for vision, hearing and blood pressure exams, as well as stroke risk assessments.
Programs included chair yoga with Jen Nebraska and “Understanding Mental Illness” with the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
In the hallway was a table filled with literature on many topics, including AgePage from the National Institute on Aging. These included “Mourning the Death of a Spouse,” “Forgetting: Knowing When to Ask for Help,” and “Getting Your House in Order.”
Those who were unable to attend can consult the organizations’ websites for information, advice and reassurance. There is always an organization in Greater Cleveland that can help with virtually any personal, family or friend’s health problem.
